The tough part about planning a wedding is having the foresight to predict wedding trends. Following the trend in wedding gowns is a lot easier than most of the other tasks surrounding a wedding. The idea here is to keep track of all of the new dresses hitting the market by top wedding gown designers. Sleeveless gowns will continue to be the trend, but with a more “princess” flare. All one needs to do is to check out Vera Wang’s newest collection to follow this 2011 trend. Trumpet skirts are also on the rise in 2011.

In addition to the more elegant gowns, black is returning as a trendy wedding dress color in 2011. Rosa Clara’s newest collection features the color black. This is a great tipoff of what could turn out to be a real popular trend next year.

The timing of the announcement of the engagement gave designers no chance to factor in wedding thoughts for spring deliveries.

If it's any consolation, even Carla Bruni-Sarkozy will be up against it, trying to find something in John Galliano's US naval base collection for Christian Dior. At least the French have the secret weapon of the January haute-couture shows. I would lay bets that Dior and Chanel are both sewing up collections to compete for the attention of princesses and first ladies of nations who are now in desperate need of a royal wedding suit.
