The Perfect Fit: Finding the Right Dress
There has been one checklist item staring me in the face for the last few months: Choose and order your bridal gown. I know what you are thinking . . . "What?! You don't have your dress yet?? Isn't that the FIRST thing brides do?!" Yes, for most people—but I guess I am not your "typical" bride. . . .
I started Thanksgiving weekend when we were up north near Bemidji, Minnesota. There are two small stores in Bemidji so my mom, sister (MOH), and I rolled the dice and decided to try them out—if anything to just get an idea. There are so many styles to choose from: A-line, ball gown, mermaid, pick-up, sheath, trumpet, fit and flare, etc., etc!! It is amazing how some dresses can make you look pretty and others make you look like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man or the Michelin Tires Mascot!
How do you know which is right for you?! You can't try on everything in the store, so I spent a lot of time looking through magazines and online. I can honestly say that it is hard to get a feel for the dress when you are looking at a model (who looks like a chiseled statue), with a serious facial expression looking up at the sky like there is a bird, plane, or Superman up there.
What's a good classic wedding dress?
When I'm looking at wedding dresses, all I'm thinking about is "Do I love it now?" and "Will I be embarassed in 20 yrs looking back on my wedding pictures?" My mom got married in the 80's and when you're looking at her wedding pictures,
