Eugene Taddeo is starting a theater company, with the musical “La Cage aux Folles” as its first production this spring.
But it is Taddeo’s life that has all the makings for a big, glamorous musical: Central New York boy goes to New York City to study fashion, works at fancy stores where sightings of royalty and celebrities are common, returns to hometown, becomes its fashion arbiter and assists a future Miss America. More on that later.
Taddeo’s storied past has brought him to this place in his life where he’s realizing a long-held dream — to become a producer of theater. TheatreFirst Productions is born.
“You get to the age in life where you become slightly bored and this thing about the golden years is a lot of baloney,” he says.
Taddeo and friends knew it was now or never for undertaking a theater company. So Taddeo, 69, chose a musical with which he has had a history (as costumer for three previous local productions).
