Brides can be inspired by Wedding Dresses through the Decades
MURFREESBORO Brides-to-be can find inspiration in a variety of places, from wedding blogs and magazines, the Internet and talks with friends.
One item to add to the blossoming "to-do" list for planning the big day is to check out the newest Oaklands Historic House Museum display, "Wedding Dresses through the Decades."
"Brides-to-be will have the opportunity to see how fashions have changed through time and what was fashionable in different decades," said Mary Beth Nevills, education director with the Oaklands.
The new exhibit at the museum, located at 900 N. Maney Ave., includes dresses from the Oaklands collection as well as gowns on loan by women from the Murfreesboro community. The display will open Sunday and run through Feb. 15.
"Some are in good condition and some are not," said Nila Gober, curator for the museum. "Some of these dresses probably have never been seen by the public."
Visitors have a way to walk through the past and see the changes in fashions from different areas, times and cultures, Gober said.
