Dress Details
This is a very classic and elegant Christos gown that made me feel like the most beautiful bride ever. It's made of a luxurious silk shantung in ivory. The train is chapel length and there is a vertical row of buttons from top to buttom down the back. There is ruching in front and back that is very flattering for any figure. It comes with an optional set of flowers made from the same material that I opted not to use, but will include with the dress when shipped.
Dress Alterations
I had very few alterations done, but those done were by a professional wedding dress seamstress. The dress was hemmed in front, and a layer of crinaline was removed. It was brought in very, very slightly in the bust (basically just a tiny nip at the cleavage, but not a change in the overall dimension of the dress). I had a bustle that was cleverly hidden in the natural folds of the dress but unfortunately my husband stepped on it (without damage to the dress), so it will need to be redone.

Salisbury Square wins window contest

A vintage wedding dress inspired the holiday window display at Salisbury Square Antiques, which won top prize in the downtown storefront decoration contest.
The window features the gown and other unique items for sale in the antiques shop, along with Christmas trees, wreaths and seasonal decor. The color gold, used prominently throughout the large display, ties everything together.
The bride never wore her dress.
Before she could marry, the groom was killed in battle during World War II. The bride-to-be died a short time later.
“She grieved herself to death,” said John Shuler, Salisbury Square Antiques co-owner who designed the window.
While the sad story isn’t apparent to passersby at 111 S. Main St., the dress and other war- and wedding-related items give the window a nostalgic feel. Designed to look like two rooms, the window features mantles, furniture and rugs, with personal touches like photographs and lamps.
